High idle on fuel injected 1200

Postby freemjs » Sat Feb 27, 2016 11:10 pm

I have a 1985 Honda Goldwing fi Ltd. I have been trying to put this together for the last three years. The guy that had it before me let it sit for 22 years. I actually put it back together and had it running except it had a death wobble at 35 miles an hour. So I took the forks off and rebuilt the forks and put them back on the bike and now it has a clicking sound only when you crank it over after an overnight sit and the sound (which sounds like a lifter) goes away after the engine starts. It also has a very high idle around 2400 rpms. I have tried to clean out the air valve and it seems fine. I put my thumb over the air valve and the idle will drop down to 2000 rpms. Help! Does anybody in this membership live out here in Las Vegas? Can anyone help me, please. Getting kind of desperate here because I would sure like to start writing after 3 years of working on this bike.

I am unable to assist with your problem, but this may raise the item to someone who can. I hope you can resume your writing very soon ;)

Not in Vegas, but I'm in Fallon.

I'm not likely to be a complete help... but... are you working on the cold idle air valve? (rear, left side. hoses everywhere. could be deposits)

Vacuum leaks, next.

Then, look at a service manual and see how to adjust the idle stop.

I think.

Yes I am headed down the road of a vacuum leak. Maybe? I might cheat and take it in for someone else to try to find. Will let you guys know. I appreciate all your help. Thank you.
