Radio " Suddenly" bites the bullet

Postby SilverDave » Tue Mar 08, 2016 8:32 pm

My GL1200 Aspy Panasonic radio was working perfectly about 3 weeks ago ... This morning ... no power, no lights .

I put another older one (with a bad FM module ) and it crackled and hummed as it used to ... so its not the fuse , or the connector gold strips .

It appears to be a faulty "off-on" switch ... hence the sudden loss of power.

Agh ... The joys of trying to keep a Classic going ! ! ! .

Are these switches replaceable (by me or by Sierra ) ?
Would slider switch cleaner be any help ?

Anyone else ever have this problem ?

Other suggestions ?

I think I would just take it out and shot it :) But let us know what you find cause I may need the info for my 85 Aspy if the radio stops working.

Well four days of saturating the off-on switch with contact cleaner... and the radio " works "
.....well... almost ... the LCD still won't come on , but I rarely look at it while driving anyway.
All the other features work.

Does anyone know if Sierra can replace a GL1200 radio LCD plate for a reasonable charge ??

You may want to contact Sierra for more info: http://www.sierra-mc.com/radioservice.asp
It never hurts to ask. ;)
