GL1200A radio search button

Postby julimike54 » Thu Mar 17, 2016 10:58 am

I've looked & didn't find a thread about how to disassemble and/or repair the radio station search/mute buttons (switch cluster) that are located on the left handlebar. I've looked at this thing for ever, but can't determine how to take it apart. The reason for taking it apart is the only function that doesn't work is the "up" lever (button), nothing happens. I'm thinking the contacts need to be cleaned. The "down" search/tune function works and the mute function works. If someone has done this or knows about a post that describes how, the help would be appreciated.

I haven't done GL1200 switches, but given that the 1500 and 1100 both come apart the same away, I'm going to guess the 1200 does as well. Have a look at this thread which shows the procedure on the 1500:

Ok looked through the posts & found nothing about opening up the switch block I'm speaking of. The 'sticky' switch repair I've performed numerous times on the 'tune' 'up/down' lever trying to make the contact clean inside, but no happy. It did make the lever operate smoother. So still looking for a way into switch.

Found an old thread where someone did a fix. Its a sealed unit and he had to cut open to get to the contacts.
