checking engine oil

Postby wildride » Wed Aug 04, 2010 6:04 am

I just inherited a 1985 1200-wonderful bike-but I do not have an owners manual. This may sound like a dumb question, just want to be sure---where is the cap to check the oil level-what level should it be at and what weight oil goes in. Thanks for any help.

First thing is to put it on the center stand so the bike is somewhat level. There are two caps on the right side just above the foot peg. One has the dipstick on it and the other, the large one, is for adding oil.

WHen on the center stand the level when full is like in the picture.

I use Mobil1 15-50 synthetic.

Just don't use oil that has any slipping additives, your clutch is running in the same oil.

Dont forget the final drive while your at it.
