Who me, stumped....get out of town

Postby twocams » Fri Apr 22, 2016 6:53 pm

I am fairly good- real good at auto electric. But there comes a time in one's life where stuff just dont work right and I could use some help. Im putting the side luggage on but the right side lights dont work. No turn,no stop,no tail lights. I plugged the light assembly to the left side and they work. So bulbs are good, wiring in assy is good. I ohmed the long pigtail from taillight to main harness under the seat. All is good. I checked power at main harness, power on 2 brown wires. No flash for turn signal when on, just test light power. Left side brown wire flashes with flashers on. OK, none of the right side bulbs work, but the green wire on the turn signal Ground has power with test light. Grounds should never have power....why do I. Both the front lights are on and do flash. So I havent checked the turn signal flasher or wiring yet. Im guessing there is a problem with the flasher feeding power to the ground wire on flasher bulb? And messing everything up...but I dont know for sure. Is there 2 flasher units one for turn and one for 4 way flasher? Ok, this must be clear as mud to most. But any help would work. Thanks

On my '85 LTD there are two flasher units, one for signals and one for 4-way directly under the rider seat where the fuel tank is attached.

You can see the flasher units in front of the black bar.
The flasher unit on the right side (looking forward) is the turn signal flasher, the left side is the 4-way flasher. Yours may be in a different location.

Cheers

Well I figured it out finally. Someone had used the plug for the top case and plugged it into the right rear light assembly. Weren't me cause I marked the cables before I took them off. But expect anything after 30 yrs I guess.

Ya you must have the BC model Bike my flashers were under the coils. The plan that came together took to long. I was starting to look cross eyed looking at those schematics. But its all good.

Went through this a while back when I was looking for these on my bike. I looked under the coils as well. The difference is mine is the LTD - yours is an ASPY. Honda moved items around to accommodate the electrical/electronics on the LTD.

Cheers
