Seats for a GL 1200 standard

Postby Razrback01 » Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:20 am

Hi everyone, I am a new owner of a classic 1984 GL 1200 standard, I am looking to replace the oversized seat with a solo seat and pad or have an OEM seat modified as a gunslinger/cafe style... are there any aftermarket seats on the market or do they have to be custom builds... I realize this model was a limited run in only 1984 I just couldn't pass up the great deal on a sound machine... Just looking to dress it up cosmetically and maybe bob it... This is a project and Hobby bike... any information and tips would be helpful...

Midlife toy build....

There are several saddle makes you could look at. Russell, Saddleman, Corbin. xpect to pay from $400-00 depending on what you want. Their web sites have some pictures to look at. You could keep an eye out on ebay for someone selling.

You might also check with any local upholstery shops. Ask if they've re-upholstered any motorcycle seats.
If not, they might be willing to work with you on building the seat you want.
Just an idea.

Going local upholsterer is the way to go... I have learned of a few local that do good work and have found another seat pan to use so I don't have to destroy my stock seat...

I need to take my own advice and see an upholstery shop about my seat. I visited one shop when I had my Shadow, so I know which one not to go back to!
He must have children in college.
