Wont start....nada

Postby twocams » Thu Apr 28, 2016 11:39 pm

I started the wing this morning. But started to rain so I put her in the car port. Went to town and came back to to see how far it was..Pushed the start button...head light dimmed like it was going to start. But nothing happened, no click, no gunt. battery was a bit low so charged it up. Has a new relay which has power to fuse both sides, both plug in wire have power. Power from battery to relay but nothing across to the starter. I did jump the relay and the starter turns over. Im thinkin new relay is bad. But was getting late so haven't tested anything else. Now I know everyone has had this problem....or some I should say. But Y the old man? I got other stuff to play with. Any ideas. I know I can get the book out and go threw the whole nine yards. But ya all maybe able to save me some time.
thanks

That the start solenoid does not click, probe the 2small wires that attach to the solenoid. One should have volts when the start button is pushed, the other should have no volts.

Thanks Virgil,

I wanted to take the red 9 pin connector apart that goes to the push start/kill switch to see if I had power there. Darn plug just came apart in my hand. Plugged back in, made sure it was locked and darn bike started. Now I dont remember ever taking that plug apart, but if I did....I didnt put back right. :( Nice that it was something easy tho.

It may be good to pull that plug apart again and clean the connectors. Afterwords give the female side a good gob of dielectric grease to preserve it. When loose it was probably arching, not good. just a thought...Rusty
