No Spark 87 GL 1200 Interstate

Postby hpm_pro » Sun May 08, 2016 7:03 pm

Hi Guys
I have had good luck with my bike but a few weeks ago the bike back fired and that was it. A few days later I found out the number 3 cylinder was full of fuel I assume a stuck float or needle. I got the fuel out of the cylinder and also changed the oil but now I have no power to the fuel pump and no spark to the plugs I ran a new power line to the fuel pump at the connector and now my fuel pump works fine but I cant figure out why no spark.

switch is on
kill switch is run position
fuel pump working now
In neutral
Starter turns bike over

Any ideas where to start
Thanks
Rob

This is where you get the book out and do some troubleshooting. Check the coils, plug wires, pulse generator and..... Read here where people have had the same type of problem with no spark.

The ignition system is quite simple.Apply 12 volts to the coils and ignition module and pulse it.It will spark.
Now to find out why it won't spark.
Keep in mind that until you get spark, the fuel pump will not operate so concentrate on the spark first.
Get to the ignition module, probe the black/white wire for 12 volts with the key on.
Here's the schematic.
If there is volts, inspect the 4 conductor plug that comes from the pulse coils for corrosion.
Power for the module and ignition coils come from the kill switch (black/white) and the switch is fed power from the ignition switch on a black wire.

ok that makes since why I had no power to the fuel pump so I thought I had a bad wire so I hooked up a new wire on a key on fuse
Thanks
