So, which is it? (final drive oil)

Ok,, so i read in the manual that when changing the final drive oil it takes 4.4 oz's to refill,,,,Then you read on and its says fill to the bottom of the fill cap. Come online and 50% say dont over fill only use 4.4 oz's. Then the other 50% say fill to the bottom of the fill line. So,,,, which is it? Does taking it to the bottom of the fill line "over fill it" ? and do I run the risk of "damage'? BTW,,, I changed mine today and 4.4 doesn't even come close to the bottom of the fill cap, more like 6 oz....... So,,, which is correct? thanks rj

I've change my final drive oil several times. Have always filled until it dribbles out of the fill hole.

I fill to the bottom of the filler hole but have noticed a slight oil film near the breather, so perhaps a slightly lower level would alleviate this.
I also put in a dash of Molyslip last time I changed the oil & the reduction in whine is quite considerable.

I've always overfilled, let it stop dripping and replaced the fill bolt. If you don't like ounces use 130 mls of hypoid. FWIW

I've never bothered to even measure it. After draining it, with the bike on the center stand (important!), I squirt it in the fill hole until it starts to dribble out. I'll spin the wheel slowly once around, let it settle, then squirt a bit more in until it dribbles again, and then put the cap back on.
