Heel/Toe shifter bolt

Postby maestro319 » Fri Aug 13, 2010 5:00 pm

Heeeelp!!! The bolt (Allen head) that holds my heel/toe shifter on my '86 GL1200 is bent and works itself loose and causes extremely sloppy and hard shifting. The Honda store, Racer Cafe, and ACE hardware do not have anything close to it. I was hoping that some of you might be parting out a bike with a H/T shifter that would have a bolt I could use. Or, do any of you know of a website or aftermarket supplier that "might" have one?
Thanks.
P.

I haven't had a problem finding bolts or replaceing them with other bolts. Can you post a pic/pic's of it? Maybe I can tell you a fast way to fix it.
How many times do I have to tell ya,,, The right tool for the right job!

Can you tighten it so that it does function correctly? If so, perhaps put some loctite or other thread locker on it at that point, and hope it stays in place.

My shifter just wouldn't stay "tight". After several miles of stop and go riding, the shifter wold have worked its way loose and got very sloppy. It would not only go up and down but left to right too!! I tried several remedies, but all with the same end result. Finally I went to a local "big-box" hardware store, MENARDS, and got a 3/8" shoulder bolt somewhat longer than I needed so I could use a spacer to push the shifter out and away from the engine support more. It also allowed me to put a second nut on the end. I LOCTITed it and haven't had much trouble since. All this just to say,go to MENARDS. They might have what you are looking for.
