86 SEi saddlebags

Postby roadwanderer2 » Sun May 29, 2016 8:29 am

hey guys, is there a "how-to" on removing the saddlebags from an 86 GL1200 SEi somewhere around here? i want to take the saddlebags off my bike so i can have a clear shot at removing the rear wheel/final drive so i can give it a servicing, IE: molly paste, gear oil etc. if theres no "how-to" on it, can someone please let me know where all the nuts/bolts/screws are to remove them, other than the 4 bolts that hold to the frame and the bag guards.

thanks,

stuart.

Remove all bolts and unplug any wires, can't be that hard!

i've tried that already. are there any screws on the lower bottoms of the bags that connect the saddlebags to the lower fender cover that needs to come off? i can't see any but the bags won't come off.

Did you get the 2 in the side (Inside) that are bolted to the rack. The middle rear fender part has a bracket with screws that attach each case. You have to get under the bike at the back. There are also screws in a cover that cover the bulbs and wiring under the bags, Rear under saddle bags each side. Get your pillow out, get comfortable. Lay on your back and look up. Take a light you may need it.

if you have a manual or owners manual look under rear wheel removal .. remove center bumper section to get to the screws than secure the bags
