Ignition Coil Test Specs Needed

Post by patbrandon1 » Sat Jun 11, 2016 3:34 am

I got this set of coils from a friend of mine that got them out of a pickup truck tool box. They are marked '87 GL1200 with a marker on the coils. They look in good shape, but I want to test them, and if they are good, I'd like to get them to someone that could use them for cheap. I have an 82 1100, and can't use em myself.

I've looked around the net and the best I can come up with as far as specs is 3 to 5 ohms on the primary side, and 10,000 to 20,000 on the secondary side.

If someone could help me find the actual specs that would tell weather or not they are good, I would be very grateful. The part number on the coil is DW82-TRI

Thanks for your time.

I found a manual for a 1984 GL1200, but I don't know if the specs for the coils are the same for every year. My coils are marked 1984. Does anyone have an idea if they are the same? They list the resistance for them in the '84 manual as: Primary Resistance 3 +/-.03 Ohms. And the Secondary as 24 +/- 3.9 k Ohms.

I made a video of me testing it, and it fell into those specs really well, so my belief is that the 1200 coils are the same, seemingly, for both '84 and '87.

Any other info you may have would be appreciated.
