Gas in my engine oil

Postby redjetty » Tue Jun 21, 2016 6:37 pm

Just in conversation with someone last week about some external gas leaks from 2 carbs, he said smell your engine oil... I did and it smells just like gasoline. I change the oil and the filter and what came out was super black and very watery and overwhelmingly smelled like gas....... so,,, any suggestions as to what could be causing this? thanks rj

Do you leave your chokes on (enricher) on for a long time. Are they all going back in right. Are your plugs firing right are they all gas soaked? Just some ideas.

Shut your fuel valve off when bike is setting . might help .. a few good treatments of sea foam might also help ,, possible the enricher is on a tad .. when in the off position .. are your exhaust pipes black and sooty and kinda damp looking one side or the other or both .. thats a start

before noticing the gas in the oil just a couple of weeks before a shade tree cycle mechanic changed my plugs, the old ones were black,,, he changed the cut off valve too,,, said he cleaned and sync the carbs,,, it does run like a bike should instead of the constant choking and that low rpm sputter,, thats all gone,,,,,YEA!! so,,, I have been shutting off the petcock as of late too when in garage,,,,, its had a full can ran thru of sea foam of proper oz's per gallons,, and the tail pipes are alittle black,,,,,,,,,,,

Most likely a leaking float valve. Failure to take care of this can lead to a bent rod, ask my how I know. Always turning your working petcock to off will eliminate the possibility of this, but I emphasize- always.

Many aftermarket float needle and seats are poor quality. Bite the bullet and buy OEM from Honda.

My money would be on a leaky float valve (or two) as well. Been there myself!

Dont totally rely on your tank valve being shut off unless you know for sure it works. I have just got used to turning mine off. I have been ridding fuel injected newer bikes for the past 15 yrs. they dont have shut offs on most of them.
I had mine shut off on my wing couple weeks ago. Forgot and rode away with it still shut off. Rode 17 miles at 70 MPH with out a skip, chug or anything. Guess it dont work and just leave on for now until I get around to fixing it. :(
