Rear brakes on 1200

Postby fcanary » Sat Jun 25, 2016 9:28 am

I was out riding this morning and noticed what sounds like grinding from the rear brakes. So it looks like I'll be doing brake pads. Question is, what is everyone using for pads, where are you buying them, how difficult of a job is it, and lastly, should I do the front also? Thanks

Keep in mind when buying brake pads that some are claimed to last much longer ( and they do )than the so called cheap ones .. the long lasting pads have a metal composition making them last longer but at the same time wearing the rotors out prematurely . there are many videos out there for brake work front and rear . just do a search and you will find many write ups and videos . its a relatively easy job with a few simple tools .. Good luck .

I tried the sintered metal ones for about a year ( 9 years ago) and noticed a ( measurable by micrometer) decrease in rotor thickness.
Good stopping though !

Since the rotors are a royal pain to re and re , I switched to EBC, non sintered ... available all over at a good price :

My local "Tire" specialist got me in two sets with no shipping !! They stop me just fine, even with a trailer and fully loaded.

That's what I ordered, non-sintered organic pads. Now I need to find a good video on how to change them. Thanks for the info.
