85 gl 1200 carbs

Postby Nathan white » Sun Jul 31, 2016 3:41 pm

Ok this is my first goldwing. I had to rebuild the carbs, now the bike wont idle. I know I have to sync the carbs but I can get it to run long enough to warm up. Any tips on what I might have have done wrong? I can use all the help I can get.

Bench sync the throttle plates first. I close the plate so it almost covers the three small holes on the bottom of the throat. I forgot which one is the base carb on the 1200's. You will only be able to move it with the idle stop screw. Then try and set the other three exactly the same. The closer you get them, the less work to sync later.

When you start it, turn the idle stop screw in to increase rpm. Once it warms up, back it out to desired rpm.

I actually just pulled them again. My 1 and 2 are flooded. My brother in law tried to bench sync them and he couldn't get them close. My right side opens alot faster. But I will try again before I put them back on.

New problem. Got it running, I was about to sync the carbs and on the right side that line that carries fuel from one side to the other is leaking fuel pretty bad. Any idea what it could be?

I'm not sure. I shut the gas off and ran the engine dry. When I restarted it no leak. So I'm thinking a float was stuck.
