Analog fuel/temp gauge question

Postby naked84 » Mon Sep 05, 2016 5:34 pm

Hello again. Haven't posted for a while, but I,m having an issue with the 7 volt regulator. In every Goldwing Docs' newsletter there is mention of the inevitable failure of this regulator, along with a description of how it will fail. If both gauges fail, it's the reg. If only one fails, it's not...should I assume the fuel and/or temp senders are faulty? I am going to purchase Wingman's upgraded reg anyway but am still curious...please advise. Thank you! I find this site every time questions arise about any aspect of the fine machines and take heed with solutions presented here. #1 in my book!

The 7 volt regulator does feed both gauges...It's purpose is for a stable voltage feeding the meters .
Without a stable voltage, the meters needle would vary with rpm changes.
It's correct that should it fail both meters would be erratic/non-functional/full meter swing...
If only one meter is failing , suspect it's sending unit.

Thanks Virgilmobile. As I suspected...got a free day tomorrow to button her back up and be in the wind!
