Brake lever has very little tensjon

Postby maestro319 » Fri Aug 27, 2010 7:27 pm

Picked up my '86 1200 trike from the body shop (removing scratches, painting, etc.) and when I went to apply the brakes the lever went straight to the handlebar with very little resistance(it did go back into position but did not help stop the trike). Luckily the brake pedal worked. So, what gives?? No ,or very little fluid??
Havn't checked yet as we went out of town 5 minutes after I got home and I just got back.

Sounds like air. Air will tend to go to the top so cover your "tank" and fairing real well and crack the hose bolt at the master cylinder then gently snug it. Open the top of the master cylinder and make sure it has fluid. Now give the lever a couple good squeezes and hold it in. Crack the bolt and any air will come out here. Once you get the air out, bleed it at the bottom to get good fresh fluid all the way down into the caliper.

Yeah, a friend of mine said it was probably air in the brake line since the resevoir was fairly full. However, he also said the whole system will probably have to be bled and fresh fluid put in. This is scheduled to be done Monday. Too bad too as this weekend here in the Chicagoland area is just gorgeous and perfect for riding. Another lost weekend.

Did they take the wheels or calipers off to make the repairs ??? cuz if so , they probably just forgot to pump the brake lever after they put the wheel or caliper on !!!!

Don't kknow. I do know they took the rear wheels off. I don't think they took the rear motorcycle wheel of. However they did remove the rear fender to paint it.
