!200 aspencade fairing

Postby RudyPerme » Sat Oct 01, 2016 8:56 pm

Good evening gentlemen, I am in the process of having my Goldwing repainted, however, I am at a loss as to how to remove the fairing and front fender to have them painted. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Suggest utilizing a service manual. A lengthy procedure

I found the Clymer manual has all the details you need to remove the fairing. Did mine this past winter for the first time and its not that difficult.
Removed the fairing to get at the fairing wiring harnesses to inspect the harness and to try and figure out why my clock was not working. Once I got harness out, there was a dustpan full of dried bugs and road dirt at bottom of fairing cavities. The harness was also chafed in some areas exposing some bare wires, luckily no shorts, from vibration over 30 years, so wires were soldered and shrink wrapped and harness taped back together. Also cleaned up all electrical connections and stuffed them with dielectric grease. Also removed compressor and dried the dessicant in the oven.
The hardest part is removing the electrical connectors that tie in the wiring harness from the fairing to the bike. Definitely better with 2 people, one to hold fairing and second to remove connectors on LHS. Take pictures as you go along, it will help when going back together. Get yourself a hard and or electronic copy of the Clymer manual and study the process before tackling it. If you need an electronic copy, ask.
Good Luck
