Rear Shock Boots FYI

Postby wiretician » Tue Oct 18, 2016 9:23 pm

Amidst a can of worms (some servicing that grew, but that's another story) , noticed that the rear shock boots were dry rotted and broken. Searched for replacements, any found were usually only one and $40 to $60 EACH. So I thought this was going to be another patient search on eBay, till I found what I needed. In a surf of eBay, I kept getting the Harley boots showing up, finally I clicked on one that actually gave dimensions on the boots. Tried to locate some dimensions in manuals to no avail. Took out the tape measure and eye-balled the shocks and did some mm/inch conversions and they were going to be very close. Figured that if they didn't fit, I've got some Harley friends at work that would want them. Besides $17 and change with shipping wouldn't be to bad. They arrived, managed to remove rear shocks, and the boots fit, since the shocks were at their extreme, the boots weren't even straining to stay in place. They look good and my seals are protected once again. They were on eBay, ranging 17 to 25 dollars, a little patience since they came out of China. Hope this helps somebody.

Have you tried the dealer for the OEM shock boots, I ordered mine less than a year ago from my local Honda Dealer here in Ontario and had them within a week. Can't recall the exact price, but I believe they were around 40 Can for both. Only the right side had a tear in the boot, the left was still OK but replaced it anyway and kept it as a spare.
Try the dealer first. You may find lesser expensive ones out there, but fit is perfect and there are no shipping costs unlike ebay stuff.
