Need Information Please

Postby stevenzierke » Thu Sep 02, 2010 9:26 am

I reside in the Houston, Texas area. Recently purchased a 1984 GL1200 Interstate, see my pictures, and I need to know some trustworthy places online or in person to start getting this project Goldwing on the road again. Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What sort of things does the bike need to have done to it?

What my bike needs?

1. For starters, it needs the clutch bled, which I will be doing here in a little while based on the extensive information I have found at this site. I will let you you know how that works out.

2. The speedometer quits after a while, works fine and then just drops slowly. Might attempt the removal and teardown and rebuild/repack of that tommorrow. Found sound extensive information about that somewhere, it might have been here, if not, and it works, I might have to post the info I have.

3. The brake lights and turn signals are a wiring mess. Some kind of aftermarket wiring harness was attempted to be be partially installed for a trailer or something. A simple cut to one wire makes things work correctly, so it will be a matter of removing all of that ant repairing the original harness. I will post some before and after pictures of that little detail later.

4. I need to replace the windscreen, it is cracked, discolored and sun stars in the plexi everywhere. Makes it hard to see through, and looks quite bad also.

5. It needs the seat and trunk backrest re-done or replaced. I also need to dind a driver backrest if I can somewhere.

6. It is missing the right top pocket in the fairing (where the c/b would go I was told and was removed after picture was taken) and all the wires are exposed to the weather and I would like to get it covered soon.

7. It needs to be cleaned up real bad, a little rust removal, and a paintjob.

All the pictures were from the previous owner, I will take new ones and post them as I go in the next few days I hope. I have been looking on ebay and other websites as well as my local resources for parts, also jcwhitney has a few promises also.

Any help or advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Google search restoration parts for your year and model or restoration parts businesses. There's a ton of them!

Ebay is the place to look for assorted used parts.
http://www.ronayers.com/ is good for motherhonda parts as well as http://www.bikebandit.com/ and https://www.partsnmore.com/ for aftermarket
