Loose plug

Postby maestro319 » Mon Sep 27, 2010 5:29 pm

For the last few rides the engine of my 1200 would "pop" and sort of backfire on start up. Thought it mught be because it is getting cooler here. Today I found something that looks like a sparkplug cap hanging very loose to the point of coming loose in my hand when I touched it. It is near and just behind the fuel pump. I guess it was attached just enough to make sporadic contact. I pushed it on tighter to where it was supposed to go so now we'll see. Any ideas what it might be and what it does?? (other than a sparkplug wire and plug, it isn't that)

If it is a spark plug wire, it could certainly cause popping and backfiring. Any chance you can post a picture of what you're talking about?
