Steering issue

Postby HALBUDD » Fri Oct 01, 2010 10:50 pm

I have a 1985 aspy when riding the bike feels like it balanced on razorblade if you move from side to side the least little bit it or catch a grove in the road it will weave. If going around a turn you have to steer in the other direction there is no play in the steering kind of scary. Any one have this problem please let me know what i can do about this .THANKS

Might not be any play in the steering but it sounds like there is a flat spot or similar in the race.

That is if the tires are at their correct pressure and in good shape and back and front wheel bearing in good shape.

Put bike on center stand and jack up the front wheel. move the bars very lightly and very slowly just off center and see if you can feel the bearing roll in.

When it happened to me I felt as if the back wheel was loose but it turned out to be the head bearings had worn a flat spot.

There was no play in the head bearings that I could feel.
