86 1200 Goldwing

Post by keyscrusing » Mon Oct 11, 2010 4:33 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm a new owner of a 1986 1200 wing. I have been told about all the problems with the stator. This bike has just had the stator and battery replaced. I can see where the charging system is the weak link so to speak. I wanted to add a couple of hi output driving lights. The headlight is pretty wimpy at night. Is there anything else I can do to "upgrade" the charging system? Any conversion kits out there?

You can put a couple 35-watt driving lights on your existing electrical system with no problem.

If you really want to upgrade your electrical system and never have to worry about it again, look into the "poorboy" alternator kit.

After all these years perhaps treat the bike to a modern high-output headlight globe (bulb)..the difference is astounding. Best of luck Dave in Western Australia.
