1986 odometer and trip meter

Post by Ohara » Sat Oct 28, 2017 7:56 am

My odometer quit working on my 86 Interstate last week. The speedometer is working. Is this a problem that can be fixed or will I have to replace the instrument cluster? I know I can do with out the odometer but I like to have everything working. Olso I would like to keep this bike as original as possible. :(

Here's the part number. Separate unit from the LCD screen. Obsolete unfortunately. 37210-MG9-871 Another part needing a suitable alternative.

I should have mentioned that the Interstate has a mechanical odometer and speedometer.... Does any one have any experience at fixing one or is it a replacement item??

I'm wondering if a trip to a wrecker would be in order? Possibly something out of an early model civic or such.

If you have lots of patience you might open it up and see if a part needs replacing or if it's just gummed up in there.

Used you might find at http://straightwings.com/

Thanks Julimike54, I am going to take it a part and see what makes it tick. At this point I've nothing to lose. It will be interesting, I may do a how to or how not to article on the repair.. :D It will make a neat winter project.

I couldn't find it, but somewhere I've seen a pictorial where one was dis-assembled and put back together. The only specific thing I remember, to gently pry the chrome trim ring open to gain access
