1200 SEI issues

Post by thrasherg » Fri Nov 10, 2017 2:10 pm

Hi Guys, I am working on a 1200 SEI for a friend and wanted to ask for some advice!! Firstly the radiator seems to be leaking, anyone know of a repair company in the Dallas area that might be able to repair it? It seems to be right in the middle of the radiator core..
Secondly this bike is fuel injected, it fires up and idles beautifully (it hadnt been used for many years) sounds lovely and smooth, but the instant you touch the throttle it dies.. where shoudl I statr looking? As it idles I was thinking of mixing some fuel injector cleaner with the gasoline and maybe let it idle for a while in a hope the cleaner might have some effect (assuming the injectors are the issue) but as stated it idles really smoothly, so the injectors all seem to be working at idle!! if it was a carb I would assume blocked main jets, but as this is fuel injection, not sure where to start..

All suggestions/ideas welcome.

Gary

You dont say if that is old gas or not. Start with new gas add your favorite injector cleaner. Change the fuel filter/ check for rust in the gas tank. Check the spark plugs are they all firing. You need good clean fuel and good ignition to fire the good fuel.

Thanks for the feedback, I forgot to mention that I drained the entire fuel system, cleaned the tank and refilled with fresh gas and seafoam. I need to find a new fuel filter, I have one that seems like it would fit, but is a larger diameter than the original Honda filter so not sure if there is space for it!! Wasn't sure if there was anything else to do except let it idle with the seafoam and hope that loosens things up. It will rev up when it first starts, but then rapidly the revs drop and it dies (Will idle for ages if I don't open the throttle) so does seem like a lack of fuel. Maybe the old filter is blocked. Will try changing it this weekend. Any recommendations on a fuel filter that will work and is about the same size as the original filter? This is a fuel injected bike and the filter appears to be on the high pressure side of the fuel pump.
