Cruise Control

Postby ortiger » Wed Oct 20, 2010 11:01 pm

I have a 85 LTD Trike and the cruise control set light won't come on and it will not set the speed. I was wondering if it could be the switch or something in the cruise control unit it self? Any help would be appreciated.

:) You're on the right track the first place to start is the micro switches. The clutch and front brake levers, and the rear brake pedal. I had the same problem and I narrowed it down to the clutch switch. I removed the switch and lubed it with WD/40 and it's OK ;)

I don't know for your year, but my 1800 will only work when I am in top gear.. Are yu in top gear when you try to use the cruise control?

True the LTD has to be in 4th or overdrive to activate C.C. :) If you are in hi gears and the micro switches check out then you will have to do a pinpoint test of the remaining componets :)

If you have an 86 Aspy then you dont have cruise control unless you have the Aspy SEI , and if so you would find the clutch switch under the left handle bar controls ajacent to the clutch lever. There will be two wires going to it. Actully it is under the clutch master cylinder , Can't miss it even though it is very small.

If you have a standard Aspy then your clutch switch would serve as to locking out the starter when the bike is in gear, meaning if it is in gear you would have to pull in on the clutch to start. On the fulies the switch serves a dual purpose

After cleaning all the switches, if it still won't set, then verify vacuum is present at the cruise diaphram under the false tank... My 87 Aspy had a broken "T" fitting on the vacuum supply hose... Was a quick fix once I found it...
