My radio on my '86 GL1200 has developed a really, and I do mean really, high pitched squeal. Everything stills works OK, just can't tolerate the high pitched noise. Any suggestions?

My radio on my '84 Aspencade did the same thing just before the fuel pump went out. Since replacing the fuel pump the squeal is no longer there. I hope that is not your problem.

So,if the squeal is only there with the engine running, then does it vary in pitch with the rpm?If yes,It's referred to as alternator whine(problem with the power filter circuit),If not it's most likely a bad ground. Are you using the headset? Is the squeal there only with the radio?Does it squeal using the cb or intercom by itself? Each one of the accessories is coupled to the terminal component block then passed to the amp. Each one can be unplugged to eliminate it as being the cause. My system would squeal with the intercom plugged in,I found a shorted wire in the plug.It grounded the mic to the speaker ground. There may be a similar problem.Virgil
