Does anyone else have a problem with losing the final drive oil from the rubber boot covering the u-joint, at the front end of the swing arm?

I haven't had it on the Goldwing (yet) but I have on a Suzuki Cavalcade, the basics are the same. Theres a seal on the shaft going into the rear. The fluid leaks out and collects down at the boot. Yes you have to pull the rear/shaft. It may only be a leak now and you could just keep checking the fluid, but leaks usually dont get smaller and it may just let go while your riding. No gear oil = no ride.
Its in the service manuals. Or do a search online, you'll see plenty.

I have had the same problem on my 1985 aspy rear end fluid dripping out of the rubber boot where u-joint is. Lucky for me I had a parts bike I took the final drive and drive shaft reinstalled it on the bike that had the leak. This fixed the leak, tried to replace the seals on the old one that was leaking but I will need a tool to be able to get the nut off as it is hard to do. I would like to use the old one for a back up. Always good to have spare parts around. Hal

I got this 86 1200i off Craigslist. It seemed to be a noisy shifter. Thunking on the upshift but quiet on downshifting. I drained the final drive oil and replaced it and the bike seemed very quiet - for a few days now same old....Dan
