Cut engine guard ?

Post by Malm » Sat Apr 21, 2018 11:20 pm

I am 6'3" and I can hardley set my foot flat on the floorboards, my heel almost won't touch, so I had an idea....
Has anyone cut the engine guard to allow more foot room?
Seems like if you cut one where I drew black lines in this picture, it would allow much more foot room and still be strong...
and just put a rubber cap on the cut off ends...
Opinions, ideas?

People with 1500s have done that.

I’ve done as you posted for the same reason. I left the bottom section longer to protect the head in the event of a tip over. An option I never found but thought would be nice, would be a foot pad to go in the lower opening. It could give your legs some variety stretches in longer rides.

I've done it on both my 1200 and 1500. Got chrome caps from Home Depot to close the ends.

Dadster, what kind of chrome cap? What was it's original use?
I was going to use a rubber cap like on the end of a cane, but chrome would be better!!

It's exactly what it sounds like -a cap that is designed to push into the end of a tube, capping it off. You can get them at most hardware stores.
