alternator out put

does any body know how many amps the out put of the alt. on a 1985 gl 1200i have. I was wondering if my electical is to much for the system. I would like to add halegen driving lites.

It's 360 watts at 5,000 RPM, which works out to 30 amps. However, that's the total capacity - you have to take into account the power required to run the engine, charge the battery, illuminate all of the lights, etc.

I wanted halogen lights on my 1100 as well, however two 55 watt lights were too much for my system to handle. I found that by switching my running/brake lights to LED's, and bringing the 55 watt bulbs down to 35 watts each (they appear just as bright), my electrical system could handle it - and I've been running it that way for two years now.
