Temp on 84 1200 Aspencade

Postby SAILOR » Sat Jan 01, 2011 10:37 pm

I just bought a 84 1200 Apsencade, and I'm wondering how many bars are normal on the temp gauge? Is 4 in the low and 2 in the hot side for a total of 6 bars about right after riding for 20 minutes?

Also how do you check the engine oil level?

sailor I just changed timing belts on my 1984 1200 aspy two days ago,but was raining all day. could not take bike out for test drive until friday temp. was 67 degs. and nice and sunny took for a nice ride came back and let bike run while setting in driveway to make sure fan was hooked up and working. Let it get warmed up to 6 bars and kept an eye on fan started running at 6 bars dont know if this is normal or not but that is when my fan kicked on. Also on the right side of bike( as you are setting on bike) look down close to your foot peg you will see a small silver cap. Unscrew it and pull out it has a small dipstick on it with two marks oil should between the two marks. Also if you need a manual for your bike look at the manuals section at top of page if you cant find it there try goldwing chrome web site good luck Hal

Thanks for the info on the temp.

If you are talking about the oil filler cap shown in this tread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=276

That cap on my bike is just a cap, no dip stick. Do I really check my oil level by looking at the clear window where the red arrow is?

On both my 85 & 84 aspy there is an oil filler cap on top of engine and a smaller one just below that. The pics you looked at are of WINGADMINS bike he has a site glass on his bike. If you look at your bike on right side down under engine do you see the same site glass? As both mine do not have site glass on them but small cap like one in pics and it has the little dip stick on it. WINGADMIN has added a dip stick to his (keeps you from praying to goldwing god when trying to check your oil level. Good luck and keep us updated if find what your looking for.
l You can see both caps if you zoom in a little the small cap next to my break pedal is where I can check the oil Hal
