Rectifier / Regulator

Postby BladeRunner9 » Mon Aug 31, 2009 8:01 pm

I have a question regarding the 1987 GL1200 Aspencade; I have quite a few spare parts for Sabre and Magna V45's. I was comparing the rectifier / regulator from my 87A & the Sabre V-45..the part #'s are IDENTICAL.....the pin outs (wires/colors) are also indentical, the only difference is the Sabre has 2 plugs to the wings 1 plug; If you took the wires out of the V-45 plugs they would go right into the wings plug.
The only other thing I can't figure out is and my question is; there are two other #'s on each unit, it looks like they might be manufacturers date codes?? one says 6.7.2 the other 3.4.5 or something like that...Any ideas?? :? I tried to add a couple of pics, but, got message that says "file too big" ...

It limits the size of pictures you can upload - so you might want to try scaling them down first. Unfortunately it doesn't do that for you.

In any case, the only thing I would worry about would be the load handling capability. Do you know if the stator output on both of the bikes is the same? That's the determining factor.

I know the wing puts out 360 watts, no idea on the V-45; But if the part #'s and the wires are the same I think it would be a safe bet.
BTW, not sure if this is the right place, but, does anyone know if there were any changes in the steering head bearings from 86~87? I saw a replacement set on line but the listing only says 84~86 :? I sent them an e-mail and they only replied the parts would fit only the yrs listed :?

Ok, reset my camera..this might be better; In the pic of the wing part it's fairly easy to see the pair of connectors second from the left are starting to "cook". Sorry about the out of focus.
I haven't been able to get the stator plug apart yet, I'm thinking it's fried at least a bit..it "looks" fine on the outside. the "other" numbers on these two parts are easy to see here. I'm thinking date codes?
Opps! File still too big....I'm working on it!.... :geek:
here we go! :D

If it were me, I would go ahead and give it a try. They look identical.

Thanks, the original is working fine...( as far as I know) I thought it was interesting that they were so close; At least I have a back up if I need one!.... :)
