Aspencade to Interstate Motor exchange .1984

Postby Big Ed » Tue Jan 25, 2011 3:56 pm

Hi
Is there any electrical issues if I swap an aspencade 1200 to an Interstate . 1984 both motors. Just wondering because of the extra electrical goodies attached to the Aspencade if the harness would be different or are they all a standard harness for all models. One issue i was told was the neutral switch....
Any info would be great.
Thanks. Ed

I've been looking at parts diagrams. Looks like interstate has a different wiring harness than Aspencade. Part numbers don't match. I'll keep digging. Any comments would be a help .
Tks. Ed

I think you should be fine with the swap. The only wires would be the stator, pulse gen., gear change, oil presure and temp. I think all the engines share these things. All the other stuff that is electrical is more model specific and not engine related. I would have to check the parts catalog to see if some of the sending units are diffrent. If they are they should swap out just fine. Looks like the Temp sending unit maybe diffrent. If so just swap them.

Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

Hi Mooseman
Thanks for the info. I think I will give it a go. The Aspencade motor is in storage right now (still on the bike) . I have to arrange to get access , that will take a few weeks. At least it's in a heated storage garage. It's still a little cold up here in Canada. Bikes only start to emerge out of hibernation at the end of April.
Thanks again . Ed
