TIRE'S & LED,S 87 INTERSTATE

Postby wrightwing » Tue Jan 25, 2011 6:27 pm

Hello gentlemen ; i am new to goldwingdocs, have read a lot of forums, and do i have questions. I just bought an 87 interstate, first bike in 20 years, can't wait to get on it!

NO.1 I'd like to know, what are the best tires. The guy I bought the bike from, said metzler is a good tire. He has always run Dunlop but said next time it will be metzler, what do you think.

NO.2 I'd like to replace the lights with led's. I've read WINGADMIN'S and THRASHERG,S post on this, and wondered about the posts on Superbrightleds.com how bright they might be,and which ones to buy, the BA15 series with 9,15,19, or 30 led's per bulb, as these are a lot cheaper, or BA15 HIGH POWER SMD series 18 or 45 led's, these are in the price range WINGADMIN used.

Ok, now to the next thing. I guess I need to change my belts according to what I'v read, I'm sure i can do it, I just want to ride this thing. TOO COLD TO WORK ON IT, TOO COLD TO RIDE., sounds like a good motto.

I will be watching this post, I want to change to LED also and don't know what bulbs to get for sure. I have Metzler 880 on my ride and like them so far. They seem to hold the road well and do good in the rain. Good luck with the new ride.

Tires are a personal thing just like oil. But if you buy the Dunlop E-3's make sure you get the Bias Ply tires. So the front would be MT90-16 and the rear MV85-15 for the Dunlop. Our 1200's were not designed for radial tires. I myself run Conti-Tour tires. As for spark plugs just stay with the stanard NGK plug. We don't run high energy coils and some of the other plugs have more resistance than the good old copper core plug. I have not tried the LED's yet. But if I did I think the higher brightness ones would be better. Led's would be a lot better for the overtaxed charging system too.
Anyway just my 2 cents.......
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

Thought I'd mention that I have a pair of of the 13w LED brake lights that Wingadmin is using on the way. I'll swap out one and then post a picture comparing this and the stock 1157 when I get them.

cheers,
