''87'' TURN SIGNALS WON'T CANCEL

Postby wrightwing » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:49 pm

Took the bike out the other nite for the first time, and noticed the turn signal was still flashing after i made my turn, ( I laugh at people going down the road with there turn signals still flashing. ) So I thought ,maybe the bike didn't have self canceling turn signals, until I read the owners manual, and found out it does. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong or what to look for. Noticed the turn switch, seemed a little sticky when I would use my thumb, to shut it off.

Go here to clean up the turn signal switch.

Does the turn signal canceal at all? If working normal it will canceal after a turn if enough lean is applied. Will also canceal after going a certain distance. Is just one out of wack or both?
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

Don't know if I got enough lean, they didn't shut off after making a turn,or if I went far enough, I
canceled them by returning the switch back to the center position manually. Yes they both flash.
Like I said, the switch feels sticky, doesn't have a nice click or indexing feel. Is there some sort of
switch that causes them to cancel after you make a turn.

"I canceled them by returning the switch back to the center position manually."

You should not have to move the turn signal switch back to center manually. If that is the case it is full of crud and could be hanging up inside the switch. It should come back to center and to canceal early just push in on the switch. I would start by cleaning the switch and lube.
If this doesn't help, you will have to get a manual to check the angle sensor and speed sensor.
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.

I had the same problem with mine. I took it apart and it works 99% of the time. I also thought that if you turn the wheel left or right it should cancel too, but it won't. I thought, turn, lean and distance where the 3 activaters for the cancelation circut.
How many times do I have to tell ya,,, The right tool for the right job!
