85 LTD parts wishlist

Postby roondog » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:52 am

I am a new member and also just purchased my 85 LTD yesterday. Got a great deal I am pretty sure for $4,200. Yes,a few dings and whatnot. The left mirror rubber is torn in the middle. Do I need to get another mirror? I was looking for some Trunk trim since the trunk has a bit of corner missing on the right side but the review I read from sabre cycles said it didn't conform to the corner very well. Any other place to look or can I do something else to cover that up? One of the floorboards is missing the rubber and a couple of the rests also missing. I was thinking to get some auto rubber mats and gorilla glue, cut and paste.
Well, once I get used to this forum and take some good pics, I will post me and my bike. Thanks for any advice. Also, what are good cleaners for the windshield and paint? I have used the Novus products on my 06 VTX1300R and that seems to work well to really clean up the shield. Protectant? Is there any product to blend in light scratches? Good waxes?
Sorry so long. I would appreciate any help here. I just started back riding as of last Sept. due to being abraod for 13 years.

The mirror rubber can be replace by its self. It might be hard finding just the rubber. I might have an extra one laying around, if the 84 1200 Interstate is the same. As for the trim. I use the chrome molding you can buy at any parts store. You cut it to lenght. They have differant sizes. 1/4 inch to 1 inch. It is self sticking. You might be able to see it in my pics. It is wraped around the trunk lid. I have problems with the lower part of my lid cracking too. I have thought about useing JB weld in the bad spots. I would grind it down smooth after it drys and then install the new 5/8 chrome molding. It will help cover the bad spots and maybe make it a little stronger. Someone else may have a better idea on a glue or hardener for the cracks at the lid edge.

Thanks,
I am not sure if the left side (sitting on bike) will be the same, or how much they are. I don't know what site to search. I have searched some parts sites. I will check some parts stores foe some chrome trim, good idea.
Always some issues with these older bikes.
