Does the fuel gauge work? If not check the 7v supply to these gauges. My 85 and 86-A don't have the 7v supply. I think Wingman is familiar with this.

Remove the wire from the temp gage and ground it. The gage, if working will peg to the high side. If not, then it maybe a broken temp wire or then the gage. That is if your fuel gage is working right. If not then I would aggree that the voltage regulator for the dash is bad.
