1986 Aspencade SEI -tons of rust in gas tank

Lots of rust in gas tank. can you clean the tank or does it need replacement. If replacement is needed, where is the best place to get a new tank? Is there such a thing as a liner?

A tank can always be cleaned of rust (Vinegar is a popular method) and can be sealed by pouring in a 2 part epoxy solution. The solutions don't always stick that well to the tank!! The big decider is if the rust has eaten all the way through the metal, if the tank is leaking due to rust holes, it can be sealed but it is usually time for a replacement tank!! It really depends how bad the rust is inside the tank and how much metal is left after removing the rust.. Try looking at the provided link first.
Do remember if the tank is full of rust, then there is probably rust in your entire fuel system, so don't forget to plan on cleaning the fuel lines, replace fuel filter, clean fuel pump and carburetors.
