Vapor Locking?

Postby lnash » Tue Apr 26, 2011 9:31 pm

My 84 Aspencade has a problem of when riding and the ambient temp gets up around 80+ it will all of a sudden run out of gas. After letting it sit for a few minutes you can hit the starter and it will fire up off of 2 or more cylinders, and as the fule pump fills the fuel bolwls it will start to hit off of all cylinders. This past weekend it stopped after about 180 or so miles of riding in 80+ degrees. The weekend before it ran 760 miles with no problems but the temps were in the upper 60's all weekend. I have replaced the thermostat with a 180 degree one trying to lower the engine temp to see if it would stop "vapor locking". The bike runs in normal heat at 5 bars on the temp gauge(is this normal or a little hot)? Does anyone have suggestions on what may be the problem. Plus it has a new from Honda fuel pump and fuel pump relay(www.cheapcycleparts.com)

It may not be a vapor lock per-say,When it stops,it may be fuel starved by a plugged fuel tank cap.Check the cap vent or make a new one. When I ran my old 76 gl1000 and it died off,I loosened the fuel cap and heard a sucking rush of air into the tank, fired it right back up and finished the run.I drilled a 1/8" hole in the cap to let the tank equalize ambient pressure.

+1 on the fuel cap not letting air in the tank. Hal
