INTERSTATE 1200 upgrade to ASPENCADE

Postby AvechuchoAxel » Sat Apr 30, 2011 2:28 am

Hello, this is my first post and my first day as a new owner of an 1986 Goldwing Interstate GL1200. I have so many questions about "how to's", but I will left that for later time.

I would like to start asking is there is possible to "upgrade" my interstate (no radio, analog cluster..etc) to the nice Digital ones along with the radio, CB, etc.
Does this bike came pre-wired or need some additional sub harness?

I'm kind of handy on this matter because I work everyday with German / American vehicles specifically on electronics, diagnostics, airbags and speedometers.

Thanks !!!!!

Axel

Well, anything is possible if you throw enough money at it; I would say you would be much further ahead to just look for a good Aspencade. I mean the air compressor system alone has numerous parts and switches. I just saw a replacement LCD (N.O.S.) on e-bay, ya better sit down for this one..$778   And that doesn't include a host of other parts to make it work. Just ride your Interstate and enjoy it. When another bike comes along then decide.

I have an 84 Interstate, and I have to say she is a great ride. I like the fact that she dosen't have half the stuff to go out like the aspy does. You can add a radio to her with no problem. If you want an air ride, it can be done. Just have to figuar out the mounting if she didn't come with it. The bikes are the dame except for the looks. And no 2 bikes look alike. Make her your own. I did and am still going. I got the radio on with front and rear speakers. soon to have 2 antennas. Will have machanical gages to go with the dash gages. Tons of things you can do if you open your mind....... Good Luck

Thanks guys...... I feel now a little frustration.....after spend more than 30 minutes writing my reply, adding pics etc, I did the mistake of closing the page and loosing everything :x .... so here it comes the short version ... I will follow suggestions and put my new baby back in the market. I started also looking for an early / mid 90's SE. I have to finish some details on mine, but after some repairs on the passenger back support, some flaky clear coat and few more things here and there.... no more than late next week is for sale. My budget is around 4.5 to 5k to buy the next one. How much do you guys think is reasonable to ask without the need to pull my pants down on the price? I'm here in the sunny state of California, very close to the Long Beach Airport (LGB) on the City of Lakewood.

thanks!!!!!!!!

Axel

Well depending on the miles and going price on blue book is around $2600 in clean condiction. Really depends on the persone who wants to buy it. Always ask a little more so you have room to bargun ;) On an 86 and if it has less than 50k I would start around $3500. Never take the first offer unless you really like it!!! Not sure you will find a good mid 90's for the 4.5 to 5 k price range. If you do, check it over very close!!!
Good luck and keep us up dated!
Rick
