Tires for an 85 GL1200

Postby hap2 » Wed Sep 30, 2009 2:16 am

Does anyone know a good place to get tires for a GL 1200? (I'm in Canada)
ALSO: steering in still very tight. I wish i knew why.
Feel free to email me ricc@shaw.ca
Thank you

You can try Zdeno in Kitchener, Ontario http://www.zdenocycle.ca/en/parts/index.spy

I usually just get mine from my local bike shop, yes I pay plenty but it is convenient.

A little more to it than taking the front one off yes.

Remove side bags
remove both shock lower mounting bolts
remove rear brake caliper.
pull the sock to the rear
pry up or use a wratchet strap (remove seat) to raise the axle bolt over the exhaust
remove axle lock bolt (left side)
remove axle nut (right side)
push axle from right side ot the left
release air from tire
if your lucky the drive spider will stay with the wheel then pull wheel to rear.

I have done this on the road, sounds difficult but not really more of a PITA

Hope you made sure to lube the spider pins where they slide into the wheel bushings, seeing the spider slid out I would imagine it is lubed anyway :)
