Gas cap

Postby grains » Tue Jun 14, 2011 8:12 am

Just did a 75 mile hiway trip on my 84 Aspencade for the first time and when I gassed up and when taking the gas cap off there was suction in the tank.
I know that in some vehicles (cars) this is common but not sure about the bike. any info?
thanks

No suction or pressure allowed. It strains the fuel system to try and maintain correct fuel flow and pressure delivery. The cap is probably corroded.Fix it.

There is a one-way valve in the gas cap that should allow air into the tank. You can try soaking the gas cap in a bowl of solvent to try to dissolve the crap plugging it up, or just replace it altogether.
