Battery Recommendations for a 84 GL1200

Post by SAILOR » Wed Jun 15, 2011 2:46 pm

I am rehab-ing an old 84 Apsencade GL1200. The battery seems to start the bike fine when it is cold, but after it warms ups it hardly turns over the motor. Haven't been stuck yet. I'm wondering if the battery is going bad, or if this might be the starter. I'm considering just to replace the battery to eliminate the possibility. If I plan to buy a new battery does anyone have a recommendation.

The gel batteries are more expensive but they are well worth it. Plenty of cranking power even in sub freezing temperatures. Yuasa makes great batteries and I have also had good luck with the gel battery from a Honda dealer.

It can be the battery, but it can also be the starter. If a new battery fixes it, then you know that's what the cause was.
