Aspencade 1985 Turning signals

Postby boltent » Sun Jul 03, 2011 10:23 am

I just bought a GL 1200 Aspencade. I find that the signals cancel if I brake, as I come to the intersection. If I press the button in to cancel, it stops as long as I hold it in, then when I release they continue. I have to gently press the button in the opposite direction to cancel.

Beside buying a new one, does anyone have an answer?

If I very gently touch or rest my finger on the button it sometimes turns them on as well.

It sounds like there is something inside off alignment, but I am not too sure exactly how they work.

Any ideas??

A very common problem with 25-30 year old switches in outdoor applications is contact corrosion and grease hardening. This is just 2 switches.Rip that darling apart.
CAREFULLY disassemble(be mindful of springs and location of parts) clean, polish, lube and re-assemble.
Don't forget to stretch the springs a little, they get weak.

I appreciate that.

Having had a 81 interstate before, where I manually had to turn it off, I thought this would be an enjoyable difference.... One big question. How do I take it apart? There seems to be a screw at the bottom. but with high beam & 4 way flashers in there as well I did not want to upset the other parts....

Thanks again

I never said it would be easy. The stuff is crammed in there pretty tight and wire positioning is exact.
One screw at a time, slow and careful.Get 4 eyes on it.
