starter chain

Postby honker » Sun Jul 03, 2011 10:01 pm

I have a 1985 gl 1200 aspencade it needs a starter chain. Does the engine need to be pulled out to replace the chain? Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, yes. The back engine cover will need to come off, and for that the engine needs to come out.

What happened that you need to replace the starter chain??? :?:
I don't think I've heard of a failed chain.

Not to be nosy or anything, but curiosity got me.

I replaced the chain, replaced the springs on the starter clutch, got it back together and it works fine.

This is twice in the past month that I've heard of a failed starter chain - and I've NEVER heard of that before. Interesting.
