1200 timing belts

Postby dan1951 » Sat Jul 23, 2011 2:31 pm

Hello Everyone, I installed new timing belts on a 1985 1200A, Gates T070, It runs great but I removed the covers after a short run to recheck the belt tension and noticed the belts running against the front crankshaft guides on the crank cog and won,t stay centered. I do not believe this is normal, Any thoughts? The belt tensioners are in good shape, Correct belt tension, I,m out of ideas, Thank all of You for any ideas.

The belt in question is the rt. side not both, After a closer look I noticed the lt. side is staying centered. I removed the tensioner on the problem side very little play in bearing, flipped the belt around thinking the belt might be the problem but same thing. The belt is riding even with the cam pulley edge, The other is about 1/8 to 3/16" back from face of the pulley. Thanks.

To be honest I have never looked that close at mine even though I have changed belts a few times and on other engines too.
Does there seem to be any undue damage to the edge of the belt?
When you had the belt off was there any slop in the camshaft pulley?
Possibly thats why Honda put the guide plate there?

The cam sprocket is tight, The belt has a slight ruff edge on the contact side, Funny You say that, I really never rechecked a past belt replacement Myself so I do not know if this is normal.
