1985 GL1200L no spark

Postby nagger007 » Tue Jul 26, 2011 5:55 pm

I have a 1985 Goldwing 1200 Limited Edition that will not fire up. From the information I got from Honda, I need a crankshaft angle sensor which is discontinued and not available from Honda. Does anyone have any information on this for a replacement or substitute?

I'VE BEEN LOOKING AND NO LUCK YET.
I hope the sensor at least has been tested to verify it's bad and not just reading the ecm codes.
An open sensor will kill the ignition, and so will a broken wire going to it.

I've checked the wires from the ECU all the way down to the sensor, there are no opens and no shorts to each other or to ground. The sensor itself is open, should read 300-500 ohms.

It appears that all honda parts suppliers are not carrying it.However in the pix below you will find what I did.Copy and past the links.I didn't call for "in stock"information,I just gathered this for you to check out.If nothing pans out.I have been able to repair them once in a while.I do have a microscope and delicate soldering equipment. As a last option obviously.

I had the exact same issue, with the 85 LTD, I found a used one off an 86 SEI, paid 50 bucks for it from Houston cycle salvage. I have "heard" that one half of the pickup sensor on a gl1500 will work, do not know if that is true or not, one of the guys on the goldwingfacts.com was talking about it

My LTD is still running on the used one. The ohms reading that you gave is not what is in the supplement though.

Good luck! :D

Yes that ohms reading isn't right, sorry, I don't know where I got that from, it should be 297-363 ohms. I found a used one and it's on it's way here. I have instructions for one for a 1500 engine which is supposed to work it's reading is 398 ohms.

I had similar issues. The problem with mine ended up being the Ignition control module. Runs great now!
Good luck!
