final drive

Postby cowboybob » Wed Jul 27, 2011 7:24 pm

Am trying to grease the splines on the rear wheel. When I removed the wheel the final drive stayed on the hub. Can't seem to get the five fingers to
goback where they belong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Can't get the wheel out of the way to get at the final drive to do some prying or cussing. Don't know what would work best.

Thanks,

cu

Are you using any type of lift? You need to get the bike up and be able to drop the rear tire out. I did this on my 85 aspy put a floor jack under swing arm and raised it up . It will work better if you can get the bike its self up. I took both shocks off at the swing arm this will let it drop down, then you can raise the swing arm up be sure to put blocks under it for support. You should be able to wiggle the tire out and down. Good luck Hal P.S. Found WingAdmins post on how tos in the how tos under how to grease and remove your final drive. give it a look its on page 2 of how to.

That was the driven flange that I was having a problem with.

I am sure that most of you knew what I meant anyway.

thanks

Hi HalBudd,

Thanks for the info. My problem is the fact that the driven drive did not come out with the wheel. The 5 rods that go into the wheel block the wheel from getting by.

The information that you referred to was helpful. I was past most of the info and had done the wheel and drivendrove before. Like I said the driven drive failed to come out with the wheel and that is what is causing the problem.

thanks again,

cu
