GL1200 Shift sensor

Post by hess3x » Sun Jul 31, 2011 11:24 am

As I headed out the other day on my 1985 GL1200 Limited, I got about a mile from the house and it started running really ruff? I turned around and headed back to the house and tore into manual. Now 30 days later I am still trying too figure it out? I checked the timing and it was on the money. I replaced the spark plugs and no change? I checked all the electrical connections, (like a million?) and found none to be out of place? I checked the box on the back that provides trouble codes and no codes were coming up (found out about this box from this site)? Then after reading about the shift sensor is it possible that it could cause this? I followed the trouble shooting instructions on the shift sensor and found no ohm's in 4th or 5th gears? Could this be the problem and does the shift sensor actually come into play?
