Head Gasket sealing solutions

Postby rcgreg » Tue Aug 02, 2011 2:32 pm

Just wondering if anyone has tried and liked any of the advertised pour and seal additives that are reputed to fix head gasket leaks without taking the heads off. I'm kinds of the opinion that they would be a short term at best solution - but then again - I've never tried any of them.

Head gasket leak....I don't think I'd want anything floating around in my engine that could plug up anything. If it will plug a head gasket leak, what else will it plug...oil screen?Radiator?

The only one that I've heard of that I would even consider is "Steel Seal" - I haven't tried it, but a guy at the local garage said he has used it successfully in some older cars where people didn't want to spend/couldn't afford the cost of a head gasket job. No idea how/if it would work in a bike.

You would think it would work the same, other than being an opposed horizontal layout, the differences would be minor in engine operation. Interesting, I think I'll change the gskets - but perhaps keep a tube as an emergency 'While on a trip" backup.

Thanks for the info.
